Dr. Bob Schulz, Business In The Decade Ahead

For our first event of the new DCBC season, we were proud to present Dr. Bob Schulz, Professor at the Haskayne School of Business, Univesity of Calgary, as our guest speaker on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.

 

Subject of Dr. Schultz’s presentation was: Business In The Decade Ahead.

 

Dr. Bob Schulz holds a BA in Mathematics from Saint Vincent College, a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, and PhD from The Ohio State University. After receiving his PhD in Business Administration, Dr. Schulz served as the Director of Management Education for Management Horizons Data Systems in Columbus Ohio. He facilitated the teleprocessing conversions for about 100 hardware and drug wholesalers with about $3 billion in aggregate sales.

 

Dr. Schulz has taught strategic management at the Haskayne School of Business since 1973. He also teaches the PhD course in Management Education, having served as the university's first Coordinator of the Teaching Development Office from 1991 to 1998. He has won 17 outstanding teaching-related awards and is well known as coach of the legendary inter-collegiate business competition teams which have won many national championships and international awards. Over the past 32 years, Dr. Bob Schulz has facilitated more than 1,400 speeches and workshops.

 

This event was hosted at the Viking Room at the Danish Club Calgary, 727 – 11 Ave. SW, Calgary. Doors open at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7:00 PM with presentation to follow.

 

Costs for dinner and presentation are $30.— for members and $40.— for non-members. We would like to remind our members that the first three dinner & presentation events you decide to attend are included in your membership fees.

 

 

Walcheren Commemorated

October 29, 2008

 

On behalf of Irene M. Bakker, Hon. Consul of the Netherlands, we would like to inform you that the battle of Walcheren will be commemorated by the Calgary Highlanders on Wednesday, October 29, 7:00 PM at the Mewata Armoury (801-11th Street SW, Calgary).

 

You are welcome to attend the commemoration.

 

 

Andrew Brash

November 5, 2008

 

The DCBC is proud to present Andrew Brash as our guest speaker on November 5th, the well known Calgary mountain climber who made a life changing decision 200 meters before reaching the top of Mt. Everest to rescue a fellow climber who had been left and presumed dead. For more information on Andrew Brash, please visit: http://www.andrewbrash.com .

 

Andrew Brash will be speaking at the Plaza Movie Theatre in Kensington (1133 Kensington Road NW) which can seat 350 people. We would like to invite you for this special event and hope many of you will attend and bring your guests. Please register early as this event will be announced in the media as well.

DCBC Christmas Dinner 2008

November 30, 2008

 

The DCBC Board invited members and their family to the annual DCBC Christmas Dinner 2008 on November 30th, 2008 at The Ranche Restaurant, Fish Creek Park. Costs: $65 per person, children' menu $20.

 

 

DCBC New Year’s Reception

January 14, 2009

 

Our annual New Year’s Reception with a special Wine Tasting Event at CSN Wine & Spirits took place on January 14. To enjoy were some Dutch treats like “oliebollen” and “appelflappen”, a variety of cheese and a few special wines for tasting.

 

CSN Wine & Spirits is managed by DCBC member André Kok. André hosted last year’s DCBC New Year’s reception and we were pleased that he was available to be our host for the evening again this year.

 

DCBC Members will receive 15% off with any purchase at this store, throughout the year!

 

CSN Wine and Spirits is located at 1716 Centre Street North, just north of 16th Avenue and has lots of free parking space available.

 

 

Mammoet

February 25, 2009

 

The DCBC is pleased to invite you to a very informative evening with Joery van Vlierden, Vice President Operations of Mammoet on Wednesday, February 25th, 2009.

 

Founded by the late Jan van Seumeren, the Schiedam-based Mammoet is a world leading heavy lift company operating in 42 countries.

 

In September they opened a 75,000 sq. ft, 45 acre. facility in Edmonton, the company’s biggest single facility in the world.

 

In addition to their oil sands work, Mammoet’s cranes and heavy haulers are used worldwide.  Their high profile work includes setting the massive steel sections into place for the Beijing Olympic’s Bird’s Nest facility, as well as raising the doomed Russian submarine Kursk from the Barents Sea.

Leo de Bever

March 25, 2009

 

Leo de Bever took over as CEO of Alberta Investment Management Corp. (AIMCo) in August 2008. The new Crown corporation has been established by the provincial government to manage $75 billion of public sector financial assets, including the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

 

De Bever was recruited from Melbourne-based Victorian Funds Management Corp., one of Australia's largest public sector pension funds, where he has served as chief investment officer since 2006. Prior to that, he held senior posts with Manulife Financial and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan in Toronto.

 

De Bever began his career at the Bank of Canada in 1975, where he rose to the position of chief forecaster. But he is perhaps best known for helping to plot Teachers' bold move several years ago into so-called alternative investment classes, such as private equity and infrastructure.

 

Leo de Bever will be speaking at Fort Calgary, 750 - 9th Avenue S.E., Calgary. Located in the community of Inglewood, right on the N.E. corner of 9th Avenue and 6th St. S.E., Fort Calgary offers plenty of free parking.

 

Doors open at 6:30 PM, seated dinner will be served at 7:00 PM with presentation to follow.
